About RAVPAG

Understanding the critical need for road accident victims protection and advocacy

Accident scene

Our Foundation

The Road Accident Victims Protection Advocacy Group (RAVPAG) was formed in response to the alarming statistics that road traffic crashes take the lives of nearly 1.3 million people every year, with around 90% of these deaths occurring in low-income and middle-income countries.

We are inspired by the provisions of section 7 of the Consumer Protection Act, Chapter 14:44, which provides for the formation of advocacy groups for the protection of specific consumer groups.

Helping victims

The Problem We Address

Many accident victims suffer injustice through:

  • Neglect at accident scenes by service providers
  • Upfront payment demands before treatment
  • Lengthy insurance claim processes
  • Hidden disclaimer clauses in insurance contracts

Our Vision

To be a leading voice in advocating for the protection of road accident victims in Zimbabwe and beyond.

Our Mission

RAVPAG focuses on post-crash response, advocating for improved emergency services and standards of social, medical and legal care for accident victims and their families.

Our Objectives

Key areas of focus for protecting road accident victims and promoting road safety

  • Correcting public misconceptions about the sanctity of life by advocating for the protection of road accident victims through lobbying for measures to address accident causes and preventability of road traffic crashes
  • Lobbying for the promotion of changes in current national policies and programmes regarding both prevention and services, including rehabilitation for physical and psychological trauma of road accident victims.
  • Conveying messages to the general public about the need to change specific behaviours towards road accident victims.
  • Building effective partnerships and coalitions with key stakeholders in the protection of road accident victims.
  • Advocating for increased funding for policies and programmes to support road accident victims.
  • Generating a demand for the protection of road accident victims from the public.

A comprehensive approach to achieving meaningful change for road accident victims.
